Juneteenth in Dallas 2022
This year, on the first year where Juneteenth is a national holiday, we are excited to be able to close our business to give our staff and members the opportunity to commemorate the day. We noticed that the Dallas community is hosting many diverse events, from volunteer opportunities, to film screenings. In the spirit of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out), we thought we'd make sure you had all the info. Below is our list of events that take place between June 17 and June 23.
Juneteenth Business Workshop

Attorney Soluto Uba will be breaking down the legal and tax game and teaching new and established business owners how to take their companies to the next level of success. Now is not the time to stop protesting, applying pressure, and pushing for policy change when it comes to public safety. While we have been quiet, the number of police killings in 2022 have outpaced 2021. DPD just let a transgender Black woman, handcuffed with a spit hood on in the heat, die en route to the hospital. Black and Brown people still experience more use of force disproportionately by DPD. Despite all the heat we put on the City to reallocate funds from DPD's massive budget in 2020, we haven't heard one peep from our City Council since then. If you are interested in whats next, let's get together for an interactive working meeting to map out where we our in our fight to reimagine public safety and what we can do about it! "Calling all game lovers: save the date for Friday, June 17 to attend SDCC’s first trivia night in honor of Juneteenth! In collaboration UNT Black Alumni and LOFE, spend an evening with friends and family as you compete, engage, and learn about the Black community around arts and culture. This will be a free social event to celebrate Juneteenth as a national holiday. Register for trivia, games, or both. Teams will be made on site with a maximum of 4 people. Don’t have a team? No worries. Come solo and we will create one for you. Trivia will be emphasized on the arts and Black culture. This is a multi-round game with prizes for the winners. Participants must be 21 or older with a valid ID."

The Hall of Negro Life was a momentous prelude to Civil Rights History, through a documentary film with Southroad Pictures. This documentary serves to honor and share the story of The Hall of Negro Life, which was in itself, a groundbreaking exhibition hall that existed on the grounds of Fair Park for only one year. MLK Juneteenth 3K Walk & Festival
Saturday, June 18, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm
"The Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center in collaboration with LIRA Group is hosting the 2022 Juneteenth 3K Walk & Festival. The event will start with a Health & Wellness Walk and end with a Community Festival. You must register for the walk on Eventbrite at bit.ly/juneteenth22 in order to participate. There will be live entertainment, selling vendors and free activities for children. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. The opening ceremony for the walk kicks off at 9:00 a.m., and the walk starts at 9:30 a.m. The festival will begin immediately after the walk. This year’s theme is “2022 A Better Me, A Better You!”

"Share a special moment with us as we welcome a visit from the "grandmother of Juneteenth", Ms Opal Lee. Ms Lee was born in Marshall, Texas on October 7, 1926 and later moved to Fort Worth at the age of 10. She is a retired teacher, counselor, author and activist in the movement to make Juneteenth a federally-recognized holiday. On June 17, 2021, President Joe Biden signed Senate Bill S. 475, making Juneteenth the eleventh federal holiday. Some of the latest of her many accomplishments include nominee for 2022 Nobel Peace Prize and Fort Worth Inc's Person of the Year. Her children's book Juneteenth: A Children’s Story originally released in 2019, is aimed at children from grades K-5 and teaches its young audience about the history and significance of Juneteenth in an easily digestible and educational way. Her book will be available for purchase and signing.
